Services of PG Doctors in Rural Areas Too From March 1: Min Veena George | Kerala | Deshabhimani

Thiruvananthapuram : Services of PG doctors from govt and private sector will be extended to rural regions too from March 1st, said Minister Veena George. Second-year PG students at Medical Colleges are being posted in taluk, district and general hospitals. As per stipulates of National Medical Commission, the PG students are assigned  under the District Residency Program as part of their training.

The hospitals  right  from taluk level will stand  benefited when services of PG doctors from Specialty hospitals of various Medical Colleges, become available there. Also, referral and back-referral systems shall be introduced to make Medical Colleges centres of excellence, the minister added.

The final decision with regard to making the /District Residency Program effective, was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Minister Veena Geroge on the 2  December. The Director of State Medical Education was appointed as the State-level Nodal Officer and the director of Health Department was put in charge as Program Coordinator.  For smooth implementation of the project, the DME Coordinator Dr. C Raveendran was appointed as Coordinator.  A Steering Committee and District-level Committee was formed as part of the District Residency Program. Guideline for effective implementation of District Residency Program was released by the Medical Education Department.
