New Delhi: Hollywood veteran Robert De Niro has become a father again – 7th time at the age of 79. De Niro had discussed parenthood while promoting his upcoming movie About My Father. The Golden Globewinner had revealed the news without providing any details about the new addition in his family or the identity of the mother. He is also a grandfather – but more than anything, what surprises fans the most is how the actor, at his age, became a father again.
In an interaction with Times Now Digital, Dr Santosh Pandey, Acupuncturist and Naturopath at Rejua Energy Center, revealed some basic tips that can help stay virile after 60.
“Virility in later ages can also become immensely hampered if not taken care of. As men get older, they need to pay more attention to the dietary and lifestyle changes they make. Below are several things you can do as an aging man to keep virility, strength, and stamina as high as possible. Small dietary changes may make a big difference in the older couples. Research shows that eating plant-based foods that contain phytoestrogens may help women raise their estrogen levels,” Dr Pandey said.
The expert listed some healthy foods that can do the trick:
- Seeds: flaxseeds and sesame seeds
- Fruits: apricots, oranges, strawberries and peaches
- Vegetables: Carrots, alfalfa sprouts, kale and celery
- Soy protein: tofu, miso soup and soy yogurt
- Legumes: lentils, peas
- Chickpeas
Dr Pandey also listed some basics that can help maintain virility after 60.
- Increase protein intake: Men need to take in more protein to deal with the higher levels of muscle break-down they experience as a result of exercise in older age. Plant-based proteins are the best options. It is recommended that an older male should eat about 60 gram of protein every day.
- Strength and flexibility: It’s better to focus on boosting mobility, flexibility, and general strength. Changing up your exercise routine is a good way to keep your body in a constant state of recovery, which is good for building strength.
Women may also benefit from what’s called Kegel exercises. They can make your pelvic floor muscles stronger. You can identify those muscles the next time you pee by stopping in midstream. You can practice tightening and relaxing those muscles several times a day.
Dr Tejas Gundewar, Chief Male- Female Fertility Consultant at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, also shared a few tips on staying virile after 60.
How to stay virile after 60?
Virility and fertility are interchangeably used, although meaning is not the same. Virility means manliness or having a strong sexual drive & fertility is the capacity to impregnate the partner. Men can be fertile without being virile. Having said that, there is only a slim distinction between the two. Here, we list a few suggestions for keeping yourself virile or fertile.
- Good Sleep: 7-8 hours of good sleep is required for optimum sperm production.
- Quit Smoking, Alcohol, Tobacco – Excessive smoking, tobacco or drinking is not good for sperm health. On the contrary, occasional smoking or drinking does not hamper sperm health.
- Avoid use of tight under garments.
- Exercise: Exercise reduces inflammation, increases anti-oxidants, increase the blood supply to the organs, boost testosterone production thus helping in improving sperm health & sexual drive.
- Squats, pushup, deadlift, bench press, pullup/chinup, overhead press: These exercises recruit a significant amount of muscle mass, and the amount of muscle mass recruited during an exercise has been shown to be an important factor in the release of testosterone. The aim is to have a total body workout of approx. 3 times a week.
- Obesity in males causes fall in testosterone thus reducing the sexual drive and sperm count. The concept of “Eat less & Exercise more” is the cornerstone for weight reduction which can improve the sperm count, sexual drive and in turn fertility.
- Mula Bandha aka Root Lock – This yoga pose is meant to improve blood supply to the muscles down there and thus improve sperm health.
- Stress Reduction: Stress results in increased production of hormone cortisol which has a deleterious effect on sperm health. Stress also affects sexual responses.
