The litigation started following the EPA reauthorized the use of glyphosate in January 2020.
Groups like the Pure Resources Protection Council, the Centre for Foodstuff Protection and the Rural Coalition, which represents farmworkers, faulted the agency for rubber-stamping glyphosate despite its alleged harms to agriculture, farmers exposed for the duration of spraying, and wildlife this kind of as the Monarch butterfly.
Circuit Decide Michelle Friedland wrote for the Pasadena, California-centered appeals court that the EPA did not properly justify its conclusions that glyphosate did not threaten human overall health and was not likely to be carcinogenic to humans. She also faulted elements of the agency’s approval course of action.
Bayer’s Monsanto device, which would make Roundup, opposed groups demanding the EPA reauthorization. Friday’s choice does not reduce people from using Roundup or comparable items.
An EPA spokeswoman explained the agency will critique the conclusion.
Bayer mentioned the EPA carried out a “demanding evaluation” of additional than 40 years of science, and believes that the agency will continue on to conclude that glyphosate-dependent herbicides are harmless and are not carcinogenic.

Bayer has confronted tens of 1000’s of lawsuits professing that Roundup results in most cancers and other ailments.
The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to determine soon whether to hear the German firm’s enchantment of a $25 million damages award to Edwin Hardeman, a Roundup consumer who blamed his cancer on its weedkillers.
