Doctors say heat stroke awareness is vital during hot spell
STAY HYDRATED IN THIS HEAT. A LOT OF PEOPLE TRYING TO STAY COOL HERE AT THE POOL IN SCHENLEY PARK. OTHERS WHO HAVE TO BE OUTDOORS UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF HYDRATION. BUT DOCTORS STILL WARN THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL STILL BE OVERCOME WITH HEATSTROKE. WORKERS WITH SPORT COURT OF PITTSBURGH ARE BUILDING PICKLEBALL AND BASKETBALL COURTS AS SOUTHSIDE WORKS. THEY HAVE A WORKFLOW STRATEGY FOR THE HEAT. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER FOR STARTERS. ALSO START THE DAY AT SUNRISE AND QUIT WHEN THE SUN STARTS TO CRANK THE MID-SUMMER HEAT. OTHER PEOPLE CHOOSE TO BE IN THE HEAT LIKE DIANE WARREN. SHE’S PACKING LOTS OF FLUIDS AND HAS A MISTING FAN ATTACHED TO HER BIKE AND IT’S OPENS AND I KEEP WATER BOTTLES IN HERE. DON’T HAVE TO BE COLD BECAUSE THE FAN KEEPS THE WATER CHILLED. I CARRY TWO BOTTLES. OKAY? AND IT’S PERFECT. THAT USUALLY LASTS ME MOST OF MY RIDE AROUND TOWN. SOME FOLKS ARE PUTTING UP WITH THE HEAT FOR UP TO EIGHT HOURS JUST TO BE FIRST IN LINE FOR AN EVENING CONCERT AT STAGE 80. ARE YOU GUYS CONCERNED ABOUT THE HEAT BEING OVERCOME BY THE HEAT TODAY? A LITTLE BIT. WE HAVE LIKE WE BROUGHT A LOT OF FRUIT BECAUSE WE FEEL LIKE THAT’LL EVEN IT OUT. DOCTORS AT ALLEGHENY HEALTH NETWORK ADVISE THE PUBLIC TO BE AWARE OF HEAT STROKE SYMPTOMS AFTER LONG EXPOSURE IN HOT WEATHER. IF YOU’RE OUT IN THE HEAT FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME AND YOU START DEVELOPING NAUSEA, DIZZINESS, MUSCLE CRAMPS AND THEN ELEVATED BODY TEMPERATURES, YOU NEED TO BE AWARE THAT YOU NEED TO GET SOMEWHERE AND GET COOLED DOWN IMMEDIATELY. ALSO THIS WEEK, A LOT OF FANS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND STEELERS TRAINING CAMP. THE TEAM ADVISES THE PUBLIC TO SHOW UP HYDRATED, BUT ALSO WATER STATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE FACILITY. AND SCHENLEY PARK, SHELDON INGRAM PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR. AND DUE TO THESE HIGH TEMPERATURES, CITY PARKS IS OPENING SIX COOLING CENTERS. THEY WILL BE AT THE HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING CENTERS ON YOUR SCREEN AND WILL BE OPEN FROM 8 A.M. UNTIL 7 P.M. THESE CITY PARKS RECREATION CENTERS WILL HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. THEY’LL ALSO BE OPEN AT TIMES VARY BASED ON LOCATION. NOW,
