Best Buy will soon begin carrying continuous glucose monitoring devices that require a prescription, opening the door to broader future healthcare product offerings ordered by physicians for their patients.
Through an array of partnerships, Best Buy is orchestrating an effort for its customers to get Dexcom G7 brand continuous glucose monitoring systems delivered to their homes. In an announcement at HLTH 2023 in Las Vegas, Best Buy said Dexcom G7, which will cost $179.99 for a 30-day supply, should be available on BestBuy.com by the end of November.
Best Buy said it works like this: a customer would connect with a physician from Wheel, a virtual healthcare company with a nationwide network of physicians and other clinicians. The medical care providers would then determine if the customer is eligible for a continuous glucose monitor, and write a prescription if they are. The prescription is “sent to and processed by HealthDyne,” a technology company known for its digital prowess in the pharmacy business, that sends the Dexcom G7 continuous glucose monitoring directly to the customer.
It’s the latest push into healthcare services and products for Best Buy. Earlier this year, Best Buy began partnering with U.S. healthcare systems to develop “new hospital at home offerings.” And last year, Best Buy introduced sales of hearing aids as part of what it called a “new experience for hearing devices” that included an expanded collection of such devices as well as “an in-store experience in more than 300 stores, and a new online hearing assessment tool.” And in 2021, Best Buy acquired Current Health, a technology platform that includes remote patient monitoring.
“We know how important it is for people living with diabetes to have access to the solutions they need to better care for themselves,” said Deborah Di Sanzo, president of Best Buy Health. “Providing a simplified experience that allows customers to take control of their health is another great example of how we enable care at home for everyone.”
