What is an acai bowl?
Acai bowls are fruit bowls with a twist! They typically start with a base made from frozen acai berries, which are native to the Amazon rainforest. They are popular in several countries. But in India, they are only cultivated in Kerala, otherwise you get acai in a freeze-dried powder or puree form.
“To get started, the frozen acai berries are mixed with other fruits like bananas or berries. After this, a liquid base such as apple juice, coconut water, or almond milk is added. The result is a thick, smooth, and creamy mixture with a vibrant purple hue. This serves as the base of the bowl,” explains Goyal.
Then come the favourite part, the toppings! The toppings play a crucial role in enhancing both the flavour and texture. “Common toppings include granola for crunch, sliced bananas, berries, coconut flakes, chia seeds, and nuts for added texture and nutritional value,” says Goyal.
