38% of Danish dog owners turn to cannabis for pet care

Scientists have just discovered that a surprising 38 percent of Danish dog owners have turned to cannabinoids, specifically cannabidiol (CBD), to address various concerns related to their pets.

The findings, published in the open-access journal PLOS ONE on January 31, shed light on the prevalence of unlicensed cannabinoid use among dog owners in Denmark.

Among the 2,002 owners who participated in the anonymous survey, 38 percent reported using at least one cannabinoid product for their dogs. The majority (93 percent) opted for CBD drops or oils, while nine percent used CBD ointments or creams.

Interestingly, only four percent of owners reported using products containing THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). The primary reasons cited for administering cannabinoids to their pets included pain management, addressing behavioral issues, and treating allergies.
