Massive Drug Bust: Truck Drivers Arrested for Transporting Rs 2 Crore Worth of Cannabis |
Ranchi: Police seized around 406 kilograms of cannabis worth approximately Rs 2 crore from a container truck under the Ormanjhi police station area on Thursday. The vehicle drivers were also arrested in the operation. The arrested truck drivers are Dharmveer Singh and Rajendra Singh, residents of Saraswati district in Uttar Pradesh and Dhanbad, respectively.
Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha on Friday informed that police received a tip-off that a container truck was illegally transporting cannabis from Sambalpur in Odisha to Ranchi. He said that a police team led by Dy SP Anuj Oraon intercepted the vehicle near Ukrid and recovered the material from a box behind the driver’s seat in the cabin.
The SSP stated, “The accused persons told the police that they were handed over the cocaine at Sambalpur. They were supposed to hand over the material to another set of persons in Ramgarh. The method is used to prevent the police from reaching the main operators of the trade. Police have, however, received important tips during interrogation of the accused persons and would investigate the matter further to reach the kingpins.”
