Live updates: Senate still voting on amendments as GOP leaders try to shore up support for Trump’s bill

Voting on amendments to President Donald Trump’s massive tax and immigration package continued overnight and into Tuesday morning. Republican leaders are seeking to shore up support among wavering members for the One Big Beautiful Bill, which would extend tax cuts passed in 2017, enact campaign promises such as no tax on tips, spend hundreds of billions of dollars on immigration enforcement and defense, and slash spending on social benefit programs. Passage in the Senate would send the legislation back to the House for further consideration ahead of Trump’s self-imposed July 4 deadline. Meanwhile, Trump plans Tuesday to visit a new temporary immigration detention center in Florida’s Everglades known as “Alligator Alcatraz.”
