Nationwide supplement recall. Throw out this superfood or risk salmonella.

If you use the dietary supplement moringa, you may want to check the label on your favorite superfood.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating an outbreak of salmonella linked to products containing moringa leaf powder.

The contaminated products have been linked to at least 11 illnesses, including three hospitalizations, across multiple states, according to the FDA.

All of the recalled products were manufactured in Jodhpur, India, by Vallon Farmdirect PVT LTD using ingredients from Batch No.: VFD/ORG/MORP/L/24 with the best by date of November 2027.

Which products were part of the recall?

The FDA is advising consumers to throw away and not to buy these products:

  • Food to Live brand organic moringa leaf powder in 8-ounce, 1-pound, 2-pound, 4-pound, 8-pound, 16-pound, and 44-pound bags starting with lot codes “SO-69006” through lot code “SO-72558.”
  • Food to Live brand organic supergreens powder mix in 8-ounce, 1-pound, 1.5-pound, 3-pound, 6-pound, and 12-pound bags starting with lot codes of “SO-69006” through lot code “SO-72558.”
  • Organic Moringa Leaf Powder, 1-kilogram box, sold on Africa Imports’ website, africaimports.com, after June 5.  
  • All Member’s Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder, regardless of lot codes and best by/use before dates.  

Where were the products sold?

Products from Food to Live were sold nationwide at both retail and wholesale stores. The company also sold to customers directly on its website and shipped to customers across the U.S. The recalled product was also sold on third-party e-commerce platforms, such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, Etsy, and eBay.

Member’s Mark Super Greens products were sold at Sam’s Clubs in stores and online, according to the FDA.

The recalled powder from Africa Imports was sold after June 5 on its website.

What should consumers do?

Stop using the product immediately and dispose of it. Contact your health care provider if you experience symptoms.
