Side effects of overeating almonds
Excessive consumption of these tree nuts can have adverse effects on your health. Overeating the badaam as a snack will not just make you uncomfortable, but also leave some bad taste in your mouth in the following ways:
Digestive problems
It is fine if you love roasting almonds and eating them. But this should be done within limits. According to health experts, as compared to other nuts, almonds are highest in protein, fibre, calcium, vitamin E, riboflavin, and niacin. So, just one ounce of the nuts, or 23 almonds should be the ideal daily portion recommended by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Eating more than that can cause severe constipation, bloating, and an upset stomach.
This happens because of the high fibre and eating lots of them shocks the body. If your fibre intake is increased, you can also increase your water intake to tackle the situation.
Decreased nutrition absorption
Because of the excess fibre (3.5 grams per ounce), other nutrients present in almonds like magnesium, calcium, zinc, etc. do not get absorbed into the bloodstream, causing their deficiency.
Hence, only eat as much as your doctor advises.
Causes weight gain
It is commonly recommended to eat nuts as snacks when you are on a weight loss spree. However, you need to know the right quantity that your body can accept.
If you hog or overeat almonds, the impact will be the opposite and adverse.
Almonds are loaded with fat and calories, as around 100 grams provide 50 grams of fat. And if you lead a sedentary lifestyle and do not move around much to burn calories, you may massively gain weight and derail your weight loss process.

Also, these nuts can cause an allergic reaction called anaphylaxis, a condition characterised by breathlessness, hives, nausea, or vomiting, confusion, impaired voice, low blood pressure, and lightheadedness.
Regularly overeating almonds also make the body develop resistance to them and causes inflammation in the stomach.
Cause kidney stones
Kidney stones are among the most painful ailments people endure. Eating too many almonds can lead to this situation, which needs proper treatment and medication.
Almonds are rich in oxalates, natural compounds that are naturally occurring in plants. Leafy green vegetables, legumes, and other foods are also high in oxalates that help provide a lot of nutrition.
One ounce of almonds contains 122 milligrams of oxalates, which if overeaten can lead to stones, and even kidney failure.
Increase body toxicity
Along with the good ones, you may sometimes also be consuming bitter or lethal almonds, which can cause toxicity in the body.
Health experts say the nuts are high in amygdalin, which turns into poisonous hydrocyanic acid in the body. The chemical slows down the nervous system and causes serious breathing problems, which can also lead to choking to death.
