New business aims to make positive environment around fitness, nutrition

Fitness fanatics or people just looking for a healthy alternative have a new option in St. Clair County through Empowered Nutrition.

Owner Emily Hendrix said she couldn’t find a place near Marine City that focused on both fitness and nutrition, so she decided to open her own location.

And she wants Empowered Nutrition to encourage a positive atmosphere around physical health.

“It’s just a positive place for the community to come together and have a healthy option,” Hendrix said.

Emily Hendrix opened Empowered Nutrition on Jan. 7, 2023. She said she wants the business to make a positive impact.

The business had its grand opening on Jan. 7 at 6743 River Road in Cottrellville Township.

Empowered Nutrition offers many different drink options including protein smoothies, protein coffees and energizing teas. Hendrix said all the drinks are made with low sugar and high protein. Additionally, the business offers fitness classes such as cardio drumming and strength training.

“Everything is meant to act like a perfectly, well-balanced meal,” Hendrix said.

Empowered Nutrition also has caffeine-free items and kids’ options.

Hendrix said her business is very community oriented. She said she wants to host fundraisers and fun events.

“There was nothing we had out here as far as fitness combined with nutrition,” she said. “So, we found a place that needed what we had, and it’s been incredible since.”

This is the second location for Hendrix in the seven years she’s been a businesswoman. She said she is happy to be able to expand into St. Clair County.

Her first location, Rise Up Nutrition, is located at 47139 Gratiot Ave. in Chesterfield Township.

Hendrix said she has seen nothing but excitement and positivity from the community. She said her fitness classes have been filling up fast since opening.

“I didn’t expect such an amazing, positive return from people that were coming in,” Hendrix said.

Hendrix said she wants to expand Empowered Nutrition’s hours once she finishes training her new staff. She wants to start offering breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Additionally, Hendrix wants to add yoga and kickboxing to the fitness class schedule.

Empowered Nutrition is currently opened from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
