Sacramento dispensaries see a boost in business on Easter Sunday
Sacramento dispensaries saw a big boost in business on Sunday for 4/20. Recognized as a day to celebrate all things cannabis, this year’s 4/20 coincided with the Christian holiday of Easter, creating a unique overlap of festivities.Michael Johnson, manager of Crystal Nugs Dispensary and Delivery, described the day as “incredibly busy.” “A lot of visitors at the shop today, a lot of people picking up for their church gatherings, for their holiday gathering,” Johnson said. The dual holiday made the day especially notable for the dispensary. Crystal Nugs tapped into the dual holiday by promoting deals and giveaways to customers. One of them was a ‘reefer basket,’ a take on an Easter basket but with cannabis. “The fact that it coincided on the lord’s day is just kind of interesting,” Johnson said.At NUG Sacramento, the weekend celebrations brought a 25 to 30 percent increase in new customers, according to Teresa Dillon, the receptionist of the dispensary. She explained that promotions leading up to the holiday helped draw people in. “There are different sales, so it brings more people in,” Dillon said.Crystal Nugs said they saw more than just the usual 4/20 crowd, with Johnson attributing the increase to the Easter holiday. He pointed out that cannabis can help ease stress during family gatherings. “It’s a stressful holiday, so it’s a really great time to come on down and de-stress a little bit with a little care package,” Johnson said. Easter and 4/20 will next coincide in 2087. Dispensaries emphasized the importance of responsible cannabis use for celebration.
